The Los Angeles Angels Of Anaheim did battle with the the New York Yankees yesterday at Angel Stadium with the Angels victorious 5 to 2. It was a huge win that rooters with Angels tickets aren’t likely to forget.
Angels pitcher Joe Saunders (4.63 ERA) got the win, while Andy Pettitte (4.15 ERA) took the loss for the Yankees. Joe Saunders went 8.1 solid innings for the Angels, allowed 7 hits, 2 home runs and 2 earned runs with no walks and 3 strikeouts. The Yankees’s starter Andy Pettitte went 6 innings, allowed 5 hits, no home runs and 3 earned runs with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Brian Bruney (4.37), and Jonathan Albaladejo (4.73) also pitched for the Yankees. With the win, Saunders’s record goes to 14-7, while Pettitte drops to 13-7. Brian Fuentes earned the save for the Angels, bringing his saves up to 44.
In addition to the 5 runs, the Angels put up 9 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Angels, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Yankees didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Robinson Cano could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Yankees mustered 2 runs, 7 hits and no errors.
Umpiring duties were performed by Gerry Davis, C.B. Bucknor, Mike Everitt and Brian Gorman. There were 38,667 Angels ticket holders in attendance at Angel Stadium.
The win puts the Angels at a record of 90-60, still leading their division, while the loss brings the Yankees to 95-56, at the top of their division. The Yankees will try to get a game back from the Angels tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
